Here's a taster of some of the screen based work I have done for mobile and tablet:

Why navigate a film by time?

Why is the navigation of film so one dimensional?

Stories might need a time line of some kind, but why can't we navigate by character's point of view or colour or sound as well as by time? This project started with the simple question: How does London make you feel? A project for the BFI Adventures in Motion Festival and a onedotzero project. We explored how people can interact with film and video in a new way to explore emotion through the sound, vision and motion in the video rather than just let a video play over time.

This project is work in progress.

Quick video mock up of a navigation idea. Moving the different shapes allows the user to navigate film - controlling audio, visuals and movement - over a spectrum of emotional moods.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/interface slide 2_640.jpg" width="640" height="321" width_o="1530" height_o="768" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/interface slide 2_o.jpg" data-mid="12532131" border="0" align="left"/>

Navigation details - linking the emotion wheel with the navigation of audio, visuals and motion.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/interface slide 3_640.png" width="640" height="488" width_o="2048" height_o="1560" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/interface slide 3_o.png" data-mid="13678687" border="0" align="left"/>
Moving through a spectrum of emotional intensity; represented through visuals.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/interface slide 4_640.png" width="640" height="583" width_o="2048" height_o="1864" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/interface slide 4_o.png" data-mid="13678663" border="0" align="left"/>

Video scamp of a proposed experimentation environment. Changing emotion of film is represented with colour.

Test visuals for our experiments with film audio, visual and sound relationships.

Video mood board for tonality of our video work.

<img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/Us_640.jpg" width="640" height="406" width_o="800" height_o="507" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/78800/2164414/Us_o.jpg" data-mid="12532099" border="0" align="left"/>

The super cool team I worked with on the project. Me in my silly trousers.

This project is Work in Progress.

The Open Retail experiment brings open data and other digital information (including infographics, video, social media comments) about products into the physical retail environment. The type of information displayed can be curated by the consumer via settings on the Open Object web app. Some footage from my phone taken during the testing phase...

The Open Retail installation was created in 3 weeks using Open Object web tagging software, custom Max MSP, processing, Air Display, HTML/CSS, php, a wiki, some crazy paint from Goo and a projector.

Infographics can be created for any product on display by anyone via an online creative wiki... Note the smoke stack bar charts comparing the relative carbon footprint of each of the products, water spray bar charts comparing water usage, supply chain maps (thanks to sourcemap.com) and the moving pie charts comparing the wage per hour vs minimum wage in the country of manufacture.

As a sister business to Open Object, Open Retail is currently being further developed into a complete open source pop-up shop and is looking for retail partners and sponsors. If you are interested please do get in contact.

Open retail aims to bring the information that is most useful and desirable to you when making a purchsing decision from the myriad of digital content relating to each product on display. Letting the consumer curate their shopping environment with information most interesting to them.

Beyond the age of information, is the age of choices.

Open Object is a project that experiments with the accessibility of open data when making purchasing decisions.

The experiment enables access to independent, crowd-sourced and verified, data and information about products and brands. Featured as Three of the best at the 2011 Royal College of Art degree show.

Open social and environmental data, information and content is linked using an open networked CMS and wiki system to any brand logo and/or a product's packaging and displayed to the consumer, in this incidence, using Augmented Reality on a mobile device. Information can also be viewed as hover states on screen or through a physical space.

The user can curate their information and data preferences via a mobile web application based on things most important to them when selecting a product, such as carbon footprint, where the product was made, or the companies policy on animal testing.

The consumer can then view a bespoke array of open data, information and content; a customer curated digital shadow of a particular product.

For experimental purposes brand logos act as AR markers & information is viewed in Augmented Reality or via an online pop-up window. For the sister experiment Open Retail the data is viewed via an interactive retail space and changes depending on the curated data preferences of whichever shopper has the closest enabled mobile device. In the future this information may be woven further into the fabric of a store facade or communicated solely device to device (M2M assumes it is a connected device) in line with the emerging Internet of Things vision.

Blog following the work of Open Object and the Internet of Things.

Visit the web app using any smart phone/tablet computer, curate your information preferences and browse customised independent and wiki sourced information appended to the package or brand logo you are interested in through an AR browser (if shopping in reality), or a pop-up (if online)

The Open Object AR Interface for many different types of user information curation, ranging from wiki comments on animal testing, to tagging newspaper headlines to independent ratings, whilst comparing three best selling face creams. The amount and type of information is controlled by the user and the content is all editable and can be rated whilst browsing

Using the Open Object system information about products can be created by anyone. Friends, NGOs, governments, press, can all append digital information to a product and anyone can access that information, should it be of interest, using Open.Object.

The Open Object application was created as part of a degree show project at the Royal College of Art, London in June 2011 and is still in beta version. It is available for testing, however to integrate much more information and product types further development and investment is required. If you are interested in partnering, licensing or investing in Open Object Ltd, or just want to know a bit more about the capabilities of the software, please do get in contact.

With thanks to Junaio and Ji An Choi.
